About Fox:
"Magnus “fojji” Olsson is among the best Quake players in the world
- if not the best - considering his capabilities as both a dueler
(1vs1) and TDM player (4vs4). With countless tournament victories
under his belt, he is regarded as one of the most successful and
experienced Quake players of all time.
Magnus burst on the scene during the EuroCup V in the legendary
TDM team p1mps. Later, he joined iCE cLIMBERS, which is, up to
this point, still the best Quake TDM team in the world. Around
that period fojji also started making a name for himself as a
feared and well respected duelist.
Fojji is known as a patient and smart player - a true strategist
who can turn any sign of defeat into victory. His flexibility and
superior aim allow him to adjust his playing style to his opponent’s,
and then strike at the right time with deadly and pin point accuracy.
His passion for Quake 4 is burning right now and he intends to live
up to his potential by totally dominating the upcoming tournaments of
Quake’s newest successor.
Fojji managed to get a top 3 finish at 2 major tournaments in 2005, Dreamhack and CPL Winter.. Recently, he successfully defended his
Quake 4 TDM World Champion title in New York with iCE cLIMBERS. Magnus will be looking to put his mark on the international Quake
4 scene and crown himself as the undisputed World Champion."
Quote from Fatal1ty.com about the F-Players
MyTeamFortress.de: Hello Fox, thanks for giving us the opportunity to interview you. We want to talk with you about TF2, of course. Please tell us which team you're currently playing in and which leagues/cups you're participating in.
fojji: Hi there. I play in Kompaniet and we are currently participating in SGL Champions League and ESL Major Series.
MyTeamFortress.de: How did you come to play TF2 anyway? You were an active part of the quake scene and played in the legendary Ice Climbers TDM, you were also a feared duel player.
fojji: Well after WSVG in Toronto there were not many quake4 tournaments left to speak of. Being a qwtf-player at heart, I had anticipated TF2 for close to 10 years, so naturally I had to give it a go. Since I didn't have any quake obligations to speak of I ended up spending quite some time messing around in TF2. I had played enough quake for one year and the change in atmosphere was just what I was longing for.
MyTeamFortress.de: How long have you been playing together with your current team?
fojji: Kompaniet is the only clan I've played TF2 in and looking at the date of our first official match it says October 17th :) I am however a long time acquaintance of some of the core figures within the Kompaniet organization
MyTeamFortress.de: What are your goals? Are you going to join the ESL Major Series, which offers prize money of 1.500 € after all?
fojji: Well Kompaniet always aim to be the best and I don't think TF2 will be different. We are however in kind of a low, not having played very much at all the past few months. Some of our players (among them, myself) had slipped into inactivity but we have now solved this with enlisting the services of the old teamfortress-icon Sauna. His beard will grant us strength. :)
MyTeamFortress.de: What's the main difference between Quake and TF2, there are relatively many player who have switched to TF2. Does your skill with the rocket launcher in Quake transfer to the Soldier's?
fojji: You can take absolutely nothing for granted in TF2. There is no way to estimate how much damage you just inflicted on your opponent since the damage values are basically a lottery. Often you find yourself surprised that you killed someone in 2 shots that didn't seem to be that dangerous. Not to mention thinking you've injured someone badly only to see that he's still at 75% health :) Rocket prediction definitely transfers to TF2. Though I found soldier to be very limited and frankly, aim-wise, there wasnt much to improve on. I ended up picking scout as my class instead since, in my eyes, he is much more difficult to master. Not to mention faster and more fun :)
MyTeamFortress.de: In Quake people fought for the items, now that place was taken by the Capture Points, aren't there some similiarities?
fojji: Health boxes (and since the recent patch, ammo boxes) are sometimes crucial in TF2 as well so that's a kind of item control. The spawn-times are ridiculously easy though so it doesnt take much skill really. When it comes to capture points I don't see many similarities to Quake :)
MyTeamFortress.de: What are the different tactical aspects comparing these two games?
fojji: TF2 being round-based and using spawn-delay are the most obvious contrasts I suppose. Though there are many of course. Speaking strictly TACTICAL aspects, the communication in TF2 is different than that of quake. That and the fact that killing a specific player in the opposing team is often the main objective.
MyTeamFortress.de: In case Quake TDM makes some kind of return to competitive gaming would you change back to Quake?
fojji: I am still playing quake3 and it is still closest to my heart. I never gave it up in the first place. TF2 is a side-project to me
MyTeamFortress.de: Are we going to see you play Quake 3 at the ESWC 2008?
fojji: Yes, that is the plan. I haven't begun any specific training towards it yet but there are many months left :)
MyTeamFortress.de: Do you know of any other Quake veterans that have switched over to TF2?
fojji: I know a whole bunch of the American quake4-players started up their own clan and played for a while. I'm not sure if they remain active or how serious they were. Also, Doctors must be the definition of quake veterans, many of them formerly playing quake3 in team abuse many a year ago. As far as European quakers, I don't think anyone but me still plays TF2 competitively :)
MyTeamFortress.de: If you had to turn one of your teammates female and take him ...erm...her to a deserted island, who would it be and why?
fojji: We are inseparable so two of us ending up alone would never happen.
MyTeamFortress.de: Quake Rocket Launcher or TF2 Rocket Launcher?
fojji: Screw reload. Quake RL
MyTeamFortress.de: Thank you again for the interview, we wish your team and of course you the best of luck for the future!
fojji: Thank you. Cheers :)
