: Now, concerning your personal opinion. For some weeks a discussion has
cleft the community in two, what's your personal attitude on the rules
debate and what's the reason of the locally clearly separated groups of
the differing sides?
dAyKiLLeR: As the Headadmin of a league without crits and with classlimies my
personal point of view is quickly explianed. To be honest, I too was at
first skeptic of these regulations, something like it had no precedent
in Germany. After a few matches with classlimits and without crits I
was wholly convinced, however. TF2 is many times more enjoyable this
way and you don't have to worry about these bothersome „Luck-crits“
anymore. Meanwhile, in my opinion, the problem isn't a geographical one
anymore, because many german teams look upon the set of rules favorably
and would welcome changes in a league like the ESL. In the long run a
set of rules without crits and with classlimits will prevail, I think.
It is already th standard in many european countries and since some
weeks there has been no game played differently.
MyTeamFortress.de : To what extent is the decision of the ESL concerning the set of rules
of the ESL Major Series, which has been announced to provide prize
money of 1500€, going to influence the community?
dAyKiLLeR: Hm, a very difficult question I can't really answer. Money is an appeal
for many teams to join a tournament. If the prize money of the EMS is
going to attract a mass of teams remains to be seen. I've heard from
some of the most well-known teams that they're not going to
participate, if the EMS is going to be played with crits. But we'll
know more about this in a few weeks...
MyTeamFortress.de : What do you think of the game's development? The game is booming
in America at this time and they're playing with crits, but also with
classlimits. Also, the winner on the maps dustbowl and gravelpit is
decided by stopwatch. What do you think of this variation?
dAyKiLLeR: I do believe one can register a positive development; the boom in
America can only serve us well because it also raises awareness in
Europe. Also, Valve is up the the challenge luckily and contributes to
the game's development through their updates. Stopwatch should be
implemented in the game in any case and be used in maps like gravelpit
and dustbowl. Crits don't belong in an eSports title in my opinion, you
can just as well start playing lotto. But of course everyone has their
own opinion on this matter.
MyTeamFortress.de : What kind of impact did Call of Duty 4 have on the popularity and reputation in the eSports scene?
dAyKiLLeR: I'm not an oracle, but of course a game like CoD4 which is very
realistic and can count on a big fanbase through its 3 predecessors has
it much easier to establish a foothold. I doubt, if CoD4 can really be
seen as a factor of Team Fortress 2's popularity. A generic interest in
TF2 is existent, but as of now there have been too less important and
meaningful contests of which to report. Hopefilly all that will change
after the launch of the ETF2L. We can depend on a larger base because
of the bigger public scene on which we can build in the future, after
all. The potential of TF2 hasn't been exhausted, but the community,
including every league, newspage and teams, have to contribute to
provide OUR game with a better rating in the eSports scene.
MyTeamFortress.de : Back to the ETF2L: Almost all european top teams are present in the
first division, who's your personal favorite for the first season?
dAyKiLLeR: I'd say you can cut the „almost“ from the question, I can't think of a
top team which isn't in the first division. Because of this, it is
relatively open, there hasn't been a tournament as of yet in which the
creme de la creme had to battle it out. Most people think of a duel
between Kompaniet and 4Kings, I wouldn't be surprised, however, if 3 or
even 4 teams play for gold, there's always room for new tactics and
surprise effects every team has to adapt to. Considering this, I don't
really have a favorite, one can however count on 4Kings and Kompaniet
to place in the Top 3.
MyTeamFortress.de : An important aspect in bringing the real top teams closer to the
community is the possibility of broadcasting during which every
spectator can view the games live. Is Source TV going to be provided
for the highlights and can you imagine Shoutcasts or even
videostreaming to be available?
dAyKiLLeR: You can assume that most of the attractive matches are going to be
watchable for everyone through Source TV. Informations concerning this
can be found on our homepage in the future, as well as downloadable
demos. I can really imagine shoutcasts or videostreams in the near
future, our resources are however limited, our focus is on a proper
procedure of the 1st season and we'll count on the support of newspages.
MyTeamFortress.de : That's it for the questions, a little game of associations at the end.
I call a word and you tell me the first word/phrase that comes to mind.
dAyKiLLeR: Uhm, i'll try? :)
